What is a DECT wireless server?

DECT is a globally accepted, secure wireless technology used in domestic and business on-site environments for personnel on the move.

A wireless server will link to almost any telephone system as an integrated mobile voice solution that is easy to install and does not interfere with the existing telephone system.

Wireless mobility is provided using wireless base stations located at strategic locations on the business premises. This allows a DECT user to work anywhere on-site with standard telephony functions and call privileges on a portable handset so that they remain available to callers. Voice-mail becomes a fall-back option.

DECT wireless servers are available for use with traditional telephone systems or more modern IP telephone systems, linked using analogue, ISDN or IP connections. A range of easy to use robust handsets are available for all business environments, promoting management on the move and improved business efficiency.

Multitone DECT wireless servers

Small business DECT servers: CS100 and wireless server 300

These servers are an easy to install, low cost cordless mobile telephone solution designed to improve efficiency and customer service through management on the move. The CS100 supports eight DECT handsets and is connected to the host telephone system by a pair of wires. The DECT handsets may be used independently or the existing analogue telephony.

The wireless server 300 supports 12 DECT handsets and is connected by a single cable using SIP technology to communicate with the host telephone system.

Both nurse call systems use repeaters to extend wireless cover for mobile DECT users.

Enterprises with multiple locations, such as hospitals, government institutions and educational campuses, can build individual network clusters each with up to 256 CS600-IPL wireless servers. A multi-site solution can be customised with single-cell and multi-cell deployment depending on the size of each individual site.

Multi-site solutions offer a number of benefits to the customer:

  • the same hardware on each site
  • a single handset may be used at up to 10 different sites
  • remote management of all sites from a single location
  • voice-mail and other application services from a remote site to DECT handsets
  • management on the move improves business efficiency

Alarm and messaging solutions

All Multitone DECT wireless servers are complemented by our range of alarm and messaging products by using either the Access Integrator or P318M range of alarm and messaging solutions. Activation of any alarm will result in a text message to a single user or team of DECT handsets. In addition, alarm contacts may be configured as outputs to operate audio or visual alarms, or to operate electric or electronic devices through an interface.

Typically the nurse call system may be connected to fire alarms, heating or cooling alarms, nurse call systems and building management systems.

DECT wireless server for the medium to larger business: CS600

The CS600 is designed to integrate with the older traditional telephone systems where the majority of extensions are analogue to wire connections. CS600 supports up to 128 DECT handsets and 32 base stations complemented by wireless repeaters.

CS600-IP for Cisco call manager integration

The CS600-IP is designed for use with Cisco call manager and has been tested and approved by Cisco as an integrated DECT wireless solution. Up to 250 users can manage on the move and enjoy the freedom to work away from their desk. CS600-IP has the same number of wireless base stations and will provide a cost effective wireless solution in the same environments as CS600.

CS600-IPL a larger IP-DECT solution

The CS600-IPL is the next generation IP-DECT wireless solution designed to integrate with Cisco call manager as a wireless DECT, as well as many other IP voice telephony systems, using SIP as the communication interface.

This system is designed as a modular nurse call solution for small, medium and large enterprises and can be installed as a single base station with six repeaters for small businesses, or expand to 256 base stations for 1500 DECT users in a large enterprise.

Unique features

Unique features of the CS600-IPL wireless server include the option of deploying it either as a single-cell solution with up to 35 wireless users, or as a multi-cell configuration with up to 1500 wireless users. The same hardware is used, but is simply supplied with a multi-cell licence for multi-cell deployments.

DECT wireless servers are connected directly to the LAN, reducing cabling and costly installation. A CS600-IPL wireless server controls the wireless infrastructure and ensures seamless handover, echo cancellation and line delay compensation for high quality wireless voice communications.

DECT wireless server for the medium to very large business: wireless server 6000

The wireless server 6000 can support over 4000 DECT handsets and 256 base stations for very large business sites. Communication with the host telephone system uses SIP technology and to ensure quality service the number of SIP connections can be expanded from 32 to 1024.
